DMW Worldwide and Clients Win AVA Awards

Agency enters the coveted awards competition for the first time and takes home five honors.

WAYNE, Pa. — June 18, 2008 — DMW Worldwide LLC and clients BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina, Independence Blue Cross, Network Health Plan, Palisades Insurance Company, and United Illuminating were each recently honored with Ava Awards. Entering the Ava Awards competition for the first time, DMW brought home three Platinum, one Gold, and one Honorable Mention award.

The international Ava Awards recognize outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, direction, shooting, and editing of audio-visual materials and programs.

DMW and Independence Blue Cross (IBC) won a Platinum award for “Everywhere You Turn.” This innovative television spot was created in response to IBC’s desire to more directly leverage its position as the local insurance provider during Medicare’s annual election period. Footage was shot in and around the Philadelphia area, and commonly known signage locations were used to present relevant Medicare messages. IBC was positioned as the local insurer that is present and ready to make the enrollment process easier.

DMW and Network Health Plan won a Platinum Ava for the “Mother & Daughter” spot, which featured an adult daughter’s visit with her mother and their review of Network Health Plan’s Medicare kit in mom’s mailbox. The spot took a head-on approach toward recognizing and leveraging the importance of family influencers in a senior’s health care decision-making process.

A third Platinum award was presented to DMW and United Illuminating for their “Bottom Line” commercial. The Connecticut electric utility distributor needed a television spot to educate consumers about owning an inefficient hot water heater and show them that leasing a new, more energy-efficient unit is a smart move. DMW’s execution included an old, wheezing, cobweb-covered water heater, with clever animation that successfully caught — and kept — the audience’s attention.

The “What Would You Do?” spot created by DMW for Palisades Insurance Company won a Gold Ava award. Palisades knew that the competition in auto insurance is fierce with each company claiming to help consumers to “save more.” This spot asked, “What would you do to save $686?” Viewers were treated to a parade of people performing “top this” routines, such as knife juggling, bear wrestling, and death-defying Houdini-like escapes. By the end of this compelling spot, even the bear called Palisades for a free quote.

An Honorable Mention was awarded to DMW and BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina for “Bubble.” This imaginative spot featured a young man who resorted to drastic measures to protect himself against the unexpected. Wrapped head-to-toe in bubble wrap, he meets friends in a movie theater. Much to the consternation of moviegoers around him he struggles to take a seat. This over-the-top portrayal served to remind consumers how much more relaxed life can be when they are protected by health insurance – notably the comprehensive, affordable protection provided by BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina.
